Philharmonic festivals

 “We can credit New York Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert for the concert coup of his orchestra’s season…. This is a genuine festival, one that does Stravinsky and everyone involved proud.” So said Musical America of the first annual festival of Alan Gilbert’s tenure, which later included festivals devoted to Beethoven, J.S. Bach, Dvořák, Rachmaninoff, and Tchaikovsky, and one that examined the connections among Haydn, Bartók, and Ligeti.
